About the Ten Topics
The previous post is sort of an ongoing project. I started it on July 26 but am continuing to update it and modify as I think, learn, and realize.
For a long while I was stymied on the subject of equations on Blogger. MathML is simply not supported. See a previous post for a test example (its supposed to be a/b). Anyway after many fruitless searches and some soul searching about moving to MovableType or elsewhere I learned that the proper search to find a good online latex equation image renderer was to use the key word "tool". Using this I was led to a post on physicsforums.com which pointed me to an online demo by an austrian company ScienceSoft. They have a fantastic online latex rendering tool. They even serve the images on their server so all you have to do is copy the link once you've generated the equation you want. Hopefully they'll stay there forever... This seemed easier than downloading them and then uploading to blogger.
As you can see, as the post lengthened I experimented with different eqution styles. Though the white equation looks good on the black, it proved too cumbersom in the white background editor. After some experimentation I hit on the perfect technique to make the images look good in blogger.
On sciencesoft:
render equation using 180 dpi.
copy URL
note image dimesions just above image
On blogger:
insert new image.
put in image URL
use centered, medium size
resize image until image dimensions most closely matches those on sciencesoft widget
A quick and easy way to add equations if you dont need to do it very often. The cool thing is that you can render any latex output. One could put in pstricks figures or even whole sections of a paper. While anyone doing latex seriously has this ability I think the widget's layout and available options are far better than any scripting I have time to do.
